Most common questions

How do I know if I’m addicted?

The following five things are some of the most common signs of addiction:

  • Drinking or using drugs in larger amounts or for longer periods of time than intended
  • Wanting to quit but being unable
  • Continuing to use drugs or alcohol despite physical and social harm
  • Needing more drugs or alcohol to achieve the same high
  • Experiencing withdrawal symptoms when the effects of the drugs or alcohol wear off

Can I overcome addiction on my own?

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) defines addiction as a chronic, relapsing disease of the brain, and as a result, it will require more than willpower to overcome it. A long-term drug and alcohol rehab program at Nova Recovery Center will provide the time you need to address the root causes of your substance abuse, learn how to cope with stressors and cravings, and heal from past or recent trauma. Our addiction treatment program blends evidence-based treatment with a variety of therapies and modalities to provide an individualized rehab experience that will give you the best opportunity for long-term sobriety.

What are my treatment options?

At Nova Recovery Center, we provide a full continuum of care to bridge the gaps between various stages of addiction treatment. We can help you determine which treatment option(s) is best for you based on your needs, circumstances, and financial ability.

  • Drug and alcohol detox: Detox is the process in which the body rids itself of the drug. During this time, our staff will provide medicated assistance to relieve uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms and help you achieve a stable state of sobriety.
  • Inpatient drug and alcohol rehab: Nova Recovery Center offers a long-term 90-day rehab program which consists of evidence-based treatments, 12-step group work, family involvement, and individual and group counseling.
  • IOP: Nova’s Intensive Outpatient Program (or IOP) lasts about eight weeks and consists of three group sessions per week. Group sessions cover topics like coping with triggers, social skills, modifying thoughts and behaviors, the science of addiction and more.
  • Sober living: Eudaimonia Recovery Homes, our sister company, offers sober living homes for adult men, women, and LGBTQ individuals. Sober living programs help people transition from a life of addiction to sobriety by providing support, structure, and a stable substance-free living environment.
  • Aftercare: Once a person has completed rehab and a sober living program, he or she may still want to continue receiving support for their ongoing sobriety. Aftercare programs are perfect for alumni who need a regular recovery check-in to stay accountable.

What type of addiction treatment is best for me?

The type of treatment that is best for you will depend on your needs and several factors, including the location, payment options, and amenities. Other qualities of high-quality treatment include:

  • Individualized treatment plans
  • Evidence-based treatment
  • An adaptable care plan that is modified as your needs change
  • Self-help group participation (AA, NA or something similar)
  • At least 90 days of continued treatment

A Nova representative can help you determine which type of treatment will suit you based on an evaluation of your current situation, drug abuse history, and current needs.

How long will I be in rehab?

The duration of your treatment solely depends on your individual situation. Drug detox typically lasts five to seven days (or more) and our inpatient rehab program is a 90-day program. Nova also provides an affordable 15-month continuum of care plan that is designed to carry clients all the way through their treatment program, from medical detox to sober living, for the best results possible. This care plan can be completely customized to meet your needs.

When should I enroll in addiction treatment?

The earlier you enroll in addiction treatment, the better. It is frequently said that an addicted individual has to hit “rock bottom” before they will seek treatment, but this is entirely untrue. In fact, you are doing yourself a favor by seeking help as soon as you realize you have a substance abuse problem. In doing so, you may be able to reduce the severity of your withdrawal symptoms and the overall duration of your treatment. Long-term rehab and a life of sobriety may also be an easier adjustment for those who have been addicted for a shorter amount of time.

Will my family be involved in my recovery program?

Yes. Addiction is often referred to as a “family disease” because it affects you, the substance user, and everyone else in the family unit. While enrolled in a drug and alcohol rehab program at Nova, your counselor and recovery specialist will communicate weekly with your family members to provide updates on your progress and answer any questions they have. You and your family will also be invited to participate in our three-day Family Program. This event is facilitated by counselors and recovery specialists in a private, intimate setting of small groups at our addiction treatment center.

How can I protect my personal privacy while I’m in drug and alcohol rehab?

Upon admission, you will be asked to complete a consent form to release information and list any and all parties that you will allow to seek information about your addiction treatment. You may edit this list at any time. While you are enrolled in a drug and alcohol rehab program at Nova, you have complete control over your personal information, which will remain completely confidential. Our staff will not tell anyone about your stay at our rehab facility unless you give us explicit consent.

What can I do to protect my employment status while I’m in rehab?

Many people do not get the treatment they need because they are fearful of losing their job. While this is a legitimate concern, there are several federal laws that are designed to protect your employment status while you are enrolled in treatment for drug or alcohol addiction. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits your employer from discriminating against you if you are suffering from addiction. It also protects your employment status while you take a leave of absence to complete your drug rehab program. The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) is also a U.S. labor law that requires covered employers to provide their employees with job protection and unpaid leave for certain medical and family reasons, including seeking treatment for drug and alcohol addiction.

How can I prepare to enter treatment?

There are several things you can do to prepare for your time away in rehab. If you have a close friend or family member who is willing to help you with these things, some assistance may help relieve any stress or anxiety you have associated with preparing for treatment.

  • Take care of any bills and financial obligations.
  • Arrange for childcare and/or pet care.
  • Give your loved ones the contact information for the rehab facility.

Prepare mentally and emotionally by taking a deep breath and focusing on the positives.

What will my life look like after drug and alcohol rehab?

Life in sobriety is an extremely rewarding and fulfilling adventure. Every person’s journey is different, so it’s impossible to say what your life will look like after rehab, but we can tell you that our program will give you all the tools you need to be healthy, happy, and substance-free. Your life will likely be very different after treatment but recovery is a lifelong process. You will need continued support even after completing rehab. Staying active in your recovery, establishing a peer support system, and maintaining that support are all essential to long-term sobriety.
